Letting everything come to you...
I suppose there isn’t a better time for an epiphany than at 4AM.
I had a few stints at weightlifting in the past but was never consistent, so I never really put on any sort of muscle.
Rather, I played a lot of sports which were always more cardio intensive so it allowed me to stay in shape.
Six months ago I started going to the gym consistently and I’m at the point where I’m finally starting to see progress.
I know I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m pretty content so far.
Throughout this time I’d occasionally give myself pats on the back for being so dedicated and not falling off.
I think I’ve only missed about a weeks time over the last 6 months usually due to travel days.
However, on the most recent occasion, which prompted me to open my laptop and write this, I thought to myself, "Wait, what I'm doing hasn't been difficult at all; in fact, it's been easy!"
When I compare my latest stint at building muscle to the ones that failed, theres one factor that stands out the most:
The amount of effort required.
If my last muscle-building effort was a 7/8 out of 10,
Then my current effort is a 1 out of 10 at best.
Yes, less effort. Almost nonexistent.
It takes more effort for me to make my morning coffee than it does to get myself in the gym…
….and I love making coffee.
What gives?
Well, I think it’s because I had a reason to go to the gym before.
Whether that be to feel healthier, look better, become stronger, etc.
Now, I have not the slightest clue as to why I go.
It’s just something I have to do.
This extrapolates across other aspects of life too.
If you are being genuine, the correct answer to:
Why do you do what you do for a living?
Why are you friends with that person?
Why are you in love with that person?
Should be “I don’t know”
Now, I don’t recommend giving this response to your spouse if they ever ask, but it’s one of the most sincere things you can say because the mind is incapable of comprehending something only the heart can.
It’s almost 5AM now so I’m probably going to make a coffee and head to the gym.
Until next time…
